Director - Full Time - Position Available

Due to the current Director having to relocate out-of-the area, the LaSalle Public Library Board of Trustees is searching for an experienced, collaborative, and service-orientated library professional to fill this crucial position. 

Located near the intersection of Interstates 39 and 80 and 7 miles from Starved Rock State Park, the LaSalle Public Library serves a diverse community including residents(population 9582) and individuals living in the Illinois Valley, which includes the towns of Peru, Spring Valley, Oglesby, and Utica.  The Library is a historic Carnegie building which was renovated and added a 5000 square-feet addition in 2003.  The new Director would lead a staff of 7 staff members with an annual budget of $475,000 and work directly with the Board Trustees who are appointed by the Mayor. In conjunction with the Board and staff, the Director strives to meet the needs of the community by connecting people with equitable access to resources, services, programs and technology.

Minimum qualifications for the position include:

• Master’s Degree in Library Science from an ALA-accredited library school preferred. Consideration will be given to person with graduate-level course work in Library and Information Science and/or individuals with an LTA (Library Technical Assistant) Certification.
• 2 to 5 years of full-time professional experience in a public library including 3 years of supervisory experience

Responsibilities include:

• Leads the day-to-day operations of the library, including but not limited to: collections, communications, human resources, interlibrary services, operations, public services and programs, social services and public safety, and technology.
• Supervise and provide the proper setting for the continuing education and growth of the existing group of talented and customer-friendly employees.
• In conjunction with City Hall staff manage and prepare Library’s annual budget.
• Ability to write and administrate grants.
• Working knowledge of laws and polices relevant to public libraries.
• Working knowledge of building management and maintenance.
• Supervises the use and maintenance of technology to deliver, monitor, and enhance library service(s).
• Development and maintenance Library’s collection based on the needs of its users.
• Continue to support and grow the Library’s highly successful online and in-person programming.
• Ability to connect and network with community organizations.
