The LaSalle Public Library serves as a community hub for the City of LaSalle and surrounding towns, offering free services including programming for adults and youth, wireless services, local history collections, reference services, newspapers, in-library computer use, curriculum support for schools, grant-funded youth science enrichment programs, and a wide-ranging collection of books, audiobooks, magazines, DVDs, digital books and audiobooks for all ages. The Library also offers meeting and study room spaces, is compliant with Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), and welcoming.

  • Minimum high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Previous library experience preferred.
  • Ability to work days, evenings and/or Saturdays, if needed.
  • Must have a pleasant, courteous and helpful manner, both in-person and on the phone.  Ability to exercise tact, patience, good judgement, and adhere to patron confidentiality policies.
  • Ability to learn integrated library systems, operate office equipment, and perform assigned tasks with limited supervision. Willingness to learn computer operations.
  • Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing in English; bilingual Spanish is an asset.


  • Perform routine circulation functions, e.g., check-in, check-out, collect fines.
  • Welcome and orient new patrons to the library. Assist patrons in locating materials, with reference questions, and provide information regarding library services.
  • Answer phones and relay messages to appropriate staff.
  • Perform opening and closing procedures, when necessary. Ensure that Library remains organized, neat and welcoming.
  • Perform other duties, as assigned.

Position Details

  • Part-Time, up to 19 hours per week.
  • Salary: $13.00 an hour.
  • Position Deadline: Open until Filled
