The Apollo Program to the Moon: History and Legacy

Event Date:
Apr 9 2019 - 6:00am

Join us, on Tuesday, April 9th, when the LaSalle Public Library hosts Author, Astronomy Educator, and Speaker, Michelle Nichols, when she presents, “The Apollo Program to the Moon:  History and Legacy.”

Fifty years ago, in December 1968, American astronauts successfully flew around the Moon on the Apollo 8 Mission.  In July 1969, Apollo 11 successfully met JFK’s challenge to land a man on the moon and return him safely to Earth within the decade.  What did we learn from our explorations of the Moon?  Why did we not return after 1972? And what was next for NASA?

Michelle Nichols will discuss the history of the development of Apollo, the science learned from the Moon landings, and an overview of the decisions made during and after Apollo that have had a ripple effect on U.S space exploration right up to present day.

This program is free, open to the public, and is made possible through funding by the Alwin C. Carus Trust.  The LaSalle Public Library is located at 305 Marquette, LaSalle, and is ADA compliant and welcoming.  For more information, please call the Library at 815-223-2341.
