Enlightening and Inspiring Generations with Generations of Ideas

Because of our library system anyone in America can educate themselves in any field they desire.  If they are confused, librarians (that without exception in my forty-seven years experience with them) actually want to help; they take the time to try and get whatever is needed.  For free.  For anybody.

Historic LaSalle Display

New Display...Historic LaSalle

Step back in time when you view this display! View Westclox pocket watches and clocks from the Whitaker clock collection, photographs that range from 1895 to 1952, memorabilia like a brochure from Wilson's LaSalle's Family Shoe Store, a 1899 Directory of the First Methodist Episcopal Church and the LaSalle and Peru Directory from 1883.

Read and learn about Pulaski Park (did you know it could have been the location of the LaSalle County courthouse?), the Moonlight Excursions on the Illinois River with the Swain steamers (the David Swain was used as President Theodore Roosevelt’s flagship, in 1906, during his trip down the Mississippi River) and the Hotel Kaskaskia (view original photographs from 1915).

As 2017 marks the 100 year commemoration of the entrance into World War I, a photograph of draftees leaving on the Illinois Central in LaSalle is featured.  You can view the display in the historic forecourt of the Library near the Marquette entrance. All items in case are from the Library's Alwin C. Carus Genealogy & Local History Room.
