It's the Real Thing...the History of Coca-Cola

Event Date:
Jul 7 2015 - 6:00pm

Join us, Tuesday, July 7th at 6:00 p.m. when Dick Volker, Coke Historian and long-time employee of the Coca-Cola Company, takes us on a nostalgic journey to the humble beginnings of America’s favorite beverage.

Odds are that you’ve enjoyed the crisp sparkle of an ice-cold Coke recently…at a game, a family event or with friends.  If you’re old enough, you’ll recall many occasions when you shared a Coke, but in those days it was Coca-Cola.

With over a century of history, and a reach that spans the globe, Coca-Cola quenched our thirsts at backyard cookouts, summer road trips, late nights at the office, and break times in the lunchroom.  Coke met us at the grocery story, the drive-up, the “filling station” cooler, and the “ice box.”  It went to war with our G.I’s and connected the Homefront with Americans stationed far from home.

With its one-of-a-kind bottle and even its own distinctive glass, Coca-Cola was the undisputed leader in branding…so much so that it became an adjective… “Coke-bottle” lenses.  From “teaching the world to sing,” in 1971, to Santa’s Coke in recent years, this fizzy, flavorful American icon is the real thing, worldwide.

This program, funded by the Alwin C. Carus Trust, is free and open to the public.
