Library Cards

Residents - If you live within the boundaries of the City of LaSalle and pay Library taxes, you are eligible to apply for a LaSalle Public Library card at no cost.   LaSalle cards are sent to you via U.S Mail and are renewed every 2 years. 

Non-Residents - If you live outside the boundaries of the City of LaSalle, and outside the boundaries of another public library, you may purchase a Library card from the LaSalle Public Library at the rate of $55.00 per year.  Cards needs to be paid and renewed on an annual basis in order to retain library privileges. 

Children may apply for a Library card when they are 5 years old. If your child is 12 or under, the card application must have a parent's signature.   Children under the age of 16 may use the proof of residency provided by their parent.  Children 16 and over may choose to provide their own proof of residency, or use that of their parent.

If you lose your card, there is a $2.00 fee to replace it.  

What do I need to bring?

A piece of mail that includes a current address dated within the last thirty days (i.e. utility bill or mail) and photo identification. 

All patron records are kept strictly confidential per Illinois law. 

Checkout Periods and Renewals

Books - 2 weeks; can be renewed twice
Audiobooks/Music - 2 weeks; can be renewed twice.
Magazines -  2 weeks; can be renewed twice.
DVDs - 1 week; can be renewed twice. 

New applicants may checkout 2 items when they apply for a Library card, after that, there is unlimited checkout on books, audiobooks, music, and magazines.  DVDs are limited to 10 per card.  Materials can be renewed as long as there are no holds on them. You may call the Library and ask staff to renew them or access your account through the electronic catalog, PrairieCat. 

Overdue or Damaged Items

Books/Audiobooks/Magazines/Music - $0.10 cents per day.
DVDs -  $1.00 dollar per day. 
Lost/Damaged - Patron will be billed for the cost of the item.
